The financial burden of patients with brucellosis in a infectious diseases hospital in Shanxi

Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the correlative factors of financial burden of patients with brucellosis in a infectious diseases hospital in Shanxi Province, and to provide the scientific basis for the formulation of prevention measures of brucellosis and the rational use of health resources.

Methods

The expenses of our hospital’s outpatients or inpatients between January 2013 to December 2013 were done questionnaire survey.

Results

For the chronic-phase inpatients, the average hospitalization durion were (23.21 ± 6.19) days, the average expenses was (8 724.5 ± 1 784.6) yuan. For the acute-phase inpatients, the average hospitalization durion were (11.04 ± 5.17) days, the average expense was (4 758.5 ± 894.1) yuan; there was significant difference between the chronic and acute patients (P < 0.001).

Conclusions

In order to alleviate the financial burden of the patients with brucellosis, more knowledge should be available, the early diagnose and early treatment should be given to the patients to reduce the rate of chronic-phase.
